The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reportedly wants to shift funds to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by moving money from its other accounts, Politico reported Wednesday, citing two House aides and a congressional office.
The aides reportedly said that Congressional appropriators are looking at a request to reallocate more funds to ICE. The news outlet reported that it was not clear how money money the department aims to redirect, what it would be used for or whether such a request needs Congress' approval.
The Hill has reached out to DHS and ICE for comment.
House Appropriations Chairwoman Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), told Politico that moving the money would not be popular in the House.
“ICE is not going to win an award in the Democratic caucus for popularity,” she said. “I certainly cannot see our caucus supporting taking money from other programs and putting it into ICE ... I can assure you there would not be support for adding additional money for ICE.”
The office of Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.), chairwoman of the House Homeland Security spending panel, confirmed the request to Politico.
The office added “that we are not at liberty to discuss the details at this time."
The news follows recent ICE raids in Mississippi, which resulted in about 680 arrests and some Democratic condemnation.
NBC News reported last year that DHS transferred about $170 million from different government agencies to ICE that year.
ICE isn't trying to win a popularity contest. They're tasked with dealing with immigration and customs enforcement; hence their name.
I’d like to see ICE deport 12 million illegals next year. It won’t happen, but that would be a big step toward restoring the rule of law. The next year, they could finish the job (although most of those criminals would self-deport if we finally got serious about defending our country against undocumented democrats).
I say that because I figure it would take DHS at least a decade to figure out how dangerous to our Homeland Security having an uncontrolled Southern border actually is. Sure, it was obvious to average folks and the troops on the ground, so to speak, right away. That doesn't mean it bubbled up to The Powers That Shouldn't Be in a format that they could or would accept.
Fortunately, while the State Dept. is fu**ing around in Hong Kong like they did in Ukraine (anyone from State seen delivering cookies yet?) in order to light the ever present anti-colonial instincts of the majority of Chinese and thereby make sure Trump doesn't get a trade agreement, this report comes out quietly without hearings.
Consequently, the democrats are just stupid enough to derail any increased funding or change of funding focus, probably not too long before the inevitable first major terror incident directly attributable to an open Southern border takes place.

Most of the DHS agencies are well funded and INCREDIBLY under-tasked.
No way are five officers needed to look at 10 packages a day (or less). Don’t get me started about TSA (Taking Scissors from Americans). Why are ridiculous overtime assignments handed out at the end of the fiscal year - (”Hey, take a vehicle out onto the pier and stay there until midnight. I don’t care if you sleep, no one will check up on you.”)
