“White Hispanic” was not a new term: It has long been the correct term to describe white people who happen to be Hispanic (i.e., those who aren’t partly or completely of black, Amerindian, East Asian or South Asian ancestry).
What was outrageous was that the media used the term (i) to refer to someone whose mother was half mestizo and half mulatto and (ii) as a way to buttress their false narrative that Zimmerman was some sort of white supremacist out to shoot black kids for no reason.
