Trump administration boosts ability to deny green cards to immigrants using welfare programs

The Trump administration on Monday issued a long-awaited rule strengthening the ability of federal officials to deny green cards to immigrants deemed likely to rely on government aid.

Officials described the so-called "public charge" rule as a way to ensure those granted permanent residency are self-sufficient -- and protect taxpayers in the process.

“The principle driving it is an old American value, and that’s self-sufficiency,” U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Acting Director Ken Cuccinelli told Fox News in an interview. “It’s a core principle -- the American Dream itself -- and it’s one of the things that distinguishes us, and it's central to the legal history in the U.S. back into the 1800s.”

“It will also have the long-term benefit of protecting taxpayers by ensuring people who are immigrating to this country don’t become public burdens, that they can stand on their own two feet, as immigrants in years past have done,” he said. “It’s not only a recipe for their success, but for America’s success growing out of our immigration system.”

The updated rule will better define, and expand, the factors that can be considered to deny an applicant on these grounds.

While the “public charge” inadmissibility standard has long been part of U.S. immigration law, the term has not been formally defined in statute. The new rule, which will go into effect in October, will define “public charge” as an immigrant who receives one or more designated public benefits for more than 12 months within a 36-month period.

Those benefits include Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), as well as most forms of Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) -- commonly known as food stamps.

It needs to be requirement not an ability, otherwise the subversive, entrenched bureaucrats will simply ignore the rule and keep handing out money.

Hard to believer we’re expected to take care of these people. The next rat POTUS can go back to allowing them to go on welfare.

Or maybe they will just close one of the three check-out lines they have open.

It’s interesting that the benefits do NOT include the earned income tax credit or the ACA health insurance premium subsidies.

When my in-laws came to this country, I vouched that they would no be public charges. My brother-in-law is now a citizen, owns hiss own business and employs a dozen others.
My sister-in-law, now a citizen, worked in a factory for 30 years and is now retired, with a pension.

We just need to enforce the “Will Not Become A Public Charge” clause on the existing immigration laws.

We need to enact The List of Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement.

The List goes like this -

1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population);
7) Set up an illegal aliens’ victim restitution fund.

Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to SELF-deport.

Also consider reciprocation of the laws of the countries of origin of the illegal aliens. For example, Mexico doesn’t allow land ownership or voting to immigrants, and doesn’t honor birthright citizenship like its citizens expect from the U.S. We should offer the same deal to them.

All immigrants should have a sponsor, so if they require assistance the sponsor would be help responsible.
Then we’ll see who steps up to the plate.

They are speaking of immigrants who are here with permission. They should apply that standard to illegals and remove them.

But,but, but......immigrants don’t use food stamps, welfare, and section 8!
That’s what they’ve been saying for the last 50 years.
