Corrections officers had not checked in on financier and registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for several hours before he was found hanging in his cell Saturday, a person familiar with the matter said, just one in a series of missteps in the hours leading up to his death.
Officers should have been checking on Epstein, who was being held in a special housing unit of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, every 30 minutes

It has nothing to do with unions.
Many states don’t have unions. Decades of personal knowledge of this with Texas prisons is they are constantly running shifts without the required and legal number of guards per inmates. There’s no conspiracy. The plain simple fact is there’s a large turnover employee rate when you get feces and urine thrown at you and you’re always on your feet so you come home with joints hurting.
It does in New York, remember not too long ago another upstate NY prison break where the union guards exchanged sex for getting the prisoner out - they made movie out of it. These guards ain't too bright, they only need to know one thing, elect their union boss.
That is the absurdity of the unions complaints about staffing: the union members want the opportunity for lots of overtime.
If the man killed himself, you have to look not only at the guards but at their entire chain of command which apparently is lazy and incompetent. If Barr knew how to manage things, he would have fired everyone he can fire and transferred or suspended the rest. Instead, we will wait for yet another IG inquiry to be completed. And of course the President is responsible as well. How long until Manafort is found dead? Or once Assange is extradited, how long will he last?
They might get fired. Thats about it. Charging them with involuntary manslaughter is like charging a bartender for serving too many drinks.
That is not the MCC - these are coveted jobs with big law enforcement benefits
Our government is not “our” government. And they wonder why people want protection from tyranny.
They might get fired. They will also be killed. They know too much.
Thanks!
Cellmates are always being moved.
“Mandantory” isn’t for Epstein, it’s for the money used to run the prison. The cell was intended for two inmates. It wasn’t to be used as a private cell.
Wardens don’t order inmates moved. Wardens handle the administrative side. That’s like asking the CEO of Amazon to change the lunch break for Joe down in the mailroom.
Assistant wardens, Captains, and other supervisors handle the day to day inmate paperwork. The cellmate could have been released from prison or sent to medical or the court could have ordered a unit transfer or a psychiatrist could have made the request.
I see it as a much more direct responsibility, considering their job was “suicide” watch. But, a bartender is legally culpable for the action of overserving:
Legal Risks Bartenders Face for Overserving Alcohol

Annnnd again -— Suicide watch is only from 2 to 10 days. That limit ended a week prior. I enjoy a good conspiracy as much as anyone but FR needs to get off this suicide watch bandwagon. It was over. Done with. Finished. Last week’s news.
Once off suicide watch, he is treated just like every other prisoner until his lawyers get a judge to order otherwise.
Epstein wasn’t anything special. The lazy guards didn’t check on anyone. Happens all the time.
That’s what I’m thinking — it was striangulation rather than hanging but they’re using the word hanging to keep things simple.
Wouldn’t surprise me if the non-suicide-risk cells have some potential tie points. Probably none up high but maybe down low.
I guess the real question is why was the decision made to take him off suicide watch.
not special... yeah, right
What jumps off of the page? Overtime! The unions pad their members pay and retirement by logging huge amounts of OVERTIME!
When something bad happens they cry about being overworked.
As long a things are going along smoothly, they get as much overtime as the guards/employees can.
Some police and Corrections officers retire on almost their regular pay because of overtime being factored into the final figure.
Also, check out the pay that Serene is receiving.
Yeah, right. He isn’t special. Countries will not fall because of him. Wealthy people might fall from grace but that’s all. Seems you believe the likes of Epstein, Prince Andrew and the Clintons are somehow more special than you.
i think he is special in the fact he could bring down the likes of princes and clintons... nothing more
that point is now moot
Yes, they want overtime to pad their BD pensions in the last 3.
Fire the guards and seize their pensions. Consider their gross neglience mediated.
“And the conspiracy theories keep coming”
This isn’t a conspiracy theory and to say so is an outright lie. The highest profile inmate in America is dead and mysteriously all of the safeguards and video equipment stopped working. Right.
