Reminds me of when Hermann Goering committed suicide the night before he was to be hanged for war crimes after the Nuremberg trials. Under constant surveillance, he had somehow gotten a cyanide pill and died with a smile on his face, cheating the hangman’s noose. He had to answer to a Greater Power, can’t escape that judgment and sentence.
And from what I've learned, they suspected the U.S. soldier guarding him. If I recall correctly, Goering had asked for something from his personal property, and it was retrieved. It's thought the cyanide pill was hidden in this item. According to a British documentary, Goering and the soldier had developed a relationship, and Goering had gifted some items to him.
