Trump praises ICE raids in Mississippi, calls them 'a very good deterrent'

President Trump on Friday defended the raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this week in Mississippi, calling them "a very good deterrent."

Trump told reporters at the White House that the raids dissuade immigrants from entering and residing in the country illegally.

“I want people to know that if they come into the United States illegally, they’re getting out. They’re going to be brought out. And this serves as a very good deterrent," he said.

ICE agents arrested roughly 680 people in Wednesday's raids, which targeted workers in poultry processing plants.

Around 300 detainees were released Thursday. ICE spokesman Bryan Cox told reporters they were "returned to the place where they were originally encountered."

Cox added that detainees with child-care issues who were not subject to mandatory detention would be "expeditiously processed and returned to the point of apprehension so that they can get to their child or other dependents."

Still, critics say the raids were unnecessary and politically motivated.

"Once again, this Administration has separated families and left innocent children without their parents, simply for political purposes motivated by racism and prejudice," said Domingo García, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens. "President Trump is targeting immigrant families so that he can play the race card and score cheap political points in the 2020 elections."

Trump on Friday defended the unannounced raids.

"The reason is because you have to go in, you can’t let anybody know, otherwise when you get there nobody will be there,” Trump told reporters when asked about the surprise raids.

Reagans' 'One-Time-Only' Amnesty included fining employers who hired illegals.

Whatever happened to that? Was any business owner ever fined or held accountable?

I know of a Japanese Steak House that got fines 300K not including the costs of lawyers, which I am sure wasn’t cheap and lost of business. It went belly up in about 2 years.

If losing your business and going bankrupt isn’t stiff enough, I don’t know what is

Nearly half of those arrested were back on the jobs/at their homes by the end of the day.

Probably more than that by now.

Local news had pictures of some of the grinning from ear to ear as they were arrested...because they knew it wasn’t a long term thing.

But sadly almost half of those captured were released. A big fail that if they have kids nearby, they are given amnesty. No one surprised at the results which incentivize illegals with kids or to pop out kids quickly.

Deporting 12 million illegals would be an even better deterrent.

The “Immigration Activists” here in MS are going to town.

This was part of a Year long Investigation.

Living here all I can say is ICE could have planned the timing of the Raids better than they did.

They did this the day School Started, stranding the Children of these People, some who were in fact Legal, at School with no Family Members in Detention. Child Services had to get involved because of the impact. It was a fustercluck.

Not defending the Illegals, but there is more to the story than is being disclosed. As far as the Employers are concerned, they outsource Hiring to Brokers (for lack of a better term). The whole thing is a wink and a nod between them and the Business Owners.

Well the Democrat party is the party of slavery

They work long hours, they hardly get paid, live in mass dorm situations.

The Japanese Steak House I mention above, housed their illegals in suburban homes in Long Branch New Jersey and would transport them in big vans. They were basically a slave to the restaurant owners. When you are not working, you are sleeping and when you are not sleeping you are working.

12 million would be a down payment on the 30-60 million actually here. Instead we see counts in dozens and hundreds, which puts a lie to any professed intent to deport millions.

The only way to change this would be for Americans to realize that illegal alien invaders are Public Enemy Number One. Make them vile, hated, rejected, and unwelcome.

And, implement eVerify, end any work permits, jail employers. Starve illegals out of the US.

Either way it is going to cost the business big money, either in fines or legal fees or both. Lawyers are not free and the fines are huge. So a large business probably could survive, but smaller ones are def. gone in a couple years.

The problem is, every one does it (it seems like it), so for every business they do bust, hundreds are still operating and will never get busted.

"Reagans' 'One-Time-Only' Amnesty included fining employers who hired illegals."

(Green Card)...everything needed to know about a Green card and trying to follow the USA Law.

(Information for Employers and Employees)

As American citizens, these laws have everything to do with the legal citizen also....we elected the people who wrote them. Know the FACTS.

“Winning!”

Not unless the employees were arrested or served with a civil action

Were they?

If not, this is empty theater. The illegal workers will just go to another willing employer
