Ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf have reported unusual GPS interference, among other problems, and the US believes Iran is to blame.
The Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration issued a warning on Wednesday highlighting threats to commercial vessels posed by Iran. The warning revealed that ships have had a variety of issues when operating in the region, including "spoofed bridge-to-bridge communications from unknown entities falsely claiming to be US or coalition warships."

US defense official told CNN that Iran has GPS jammers operating on Abu Musa Island, an island in the Persian Gulf located near the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the aim is apparently to cause ships and aircraft to inadvertently wander into Iranian waters or airspace, thus justifying a seizure.

ya right up it’s
It is the former.
Ofvious solution - navigate as man has for thousands of years. Use a sextant and compass. My goodness, if Vikings could find England, if Columbus could sail to America, if Polynesians could settle all the Pacific Islands, etc. why can’t modern man steer without GPS?
Captain William Bligh and a handful of loyalists, starving and weak, landed at a Dutch settlement in Timor, after traveling 3,618 miles on an open 23-foot boat. Bligh navigated using only a sextant and a pocket watch.
Have you ever heard of SAASM?
Crowded waters, traffic moving at 15+ kts, in both directions, limited room to manuever leaves little or no time to employ traditional navigation tools.
Based on the measurement of the height of a star, the use of the traditional sextant requires a good mastery of the instrument, a stability of the user, a visibility of the horizon, a hypothesis on its position and the capacity to use astronomical tables.
(HAND HELD) STARNAV used the skills acquired in astral navigation to develop an autonomous system able to determine the position of the user by observing the astres.
The system is composed of a camera and an inertial platform. By aiming at an astre (Sun, Moon, Planet, star), without knowledge of the target (recognition algorithm), without visibility on the horizon, without astronomical knowledge, the system determines the position on Earth.

IIRC Uncle Sam has the patents on similar devices, there several of them out there.
Iran is praying for a demonrat victory in 2020....and they better....
There is no reason Iran hasn't been given the technology. Russia and Putin would find it "amusing".
Russia (IMHO) will be a partner with Iran (and others) in the upcoming Ezekiel 38 invasion of Israel. Iran and friends will suffer a substantial defeat.
It is no coincidence that Russia is helping Iran. Perhaps in a lot of ways we either don’t know, or is not being talked about openly (for obvious reasons).
We know how it ends! Look up!
Boy, is there going to be a lot of surprise when it comes.
Both events, actually.
very nice
Yep, modern day wreckers.
Penalties for those caught need not change.
You can, in effect, increase the constellation by installing “extra” satellites on the ground.
This was done in the early days at times.
Unfortunately these claims can’t be trusted, there are too many “Curveballs” thrown, and they all break in the same direction.
Re. Iran seeing the building of a canal as a
Victory.
More likely, a trip to irrelevance.
There is a lot of difference in navigation on open seas and a harbor.
