Wayne needs to get with the program.

From reports I read the guns used were legally purchased so what do enhanced background checks get us? They would close a loophole in private gun sales perhaps.

"Red flag" laws are being proposed as a grant to states to fund their implementation thus protecting states rights and federalism. We see story after story where law enforcement knew something about a perp before hand. Florida, for example. They need the tools to get to these nut cases.

What Sen Graham is proposing seems reasonable and protects due process.

Because it's implemented at the state-level, we can police our states and hold them accountable. That's how it should be.

You know that “due process” requires you to hire an attorney to defend your right to possess a firearm. Sure you could probably go it alone, but you’re going to be going against attorneys. Do you think most of America is financially prepared to defend their right to possess a firearm?

The bottom line is, in a country of 320 plus million people there is no way you’re gonna stop the murder of 31. I know it sounds harsh, but the fact is it’s not preventable.

Ask Richard Jewell how ‘due process’ works out for the average middle class American...

"Wayne needs to get with the program."

I disagree with that. I do agree with Wayne's position against Trump's universal background check effort.

So its ok to violate one's inalienable rights as long as the states do it ?

Regardless of legislation in question, Wayne LaPierre is bad news and an insult to the NRA. Wish Trump were in communication with better gun advocates. Praying he surrounds himself with the right people and trusts his own instincts as he does with most other things. And that God’s hand will be upon him.

Nothing he will do will satisfy everyone, but know this much: should some new tragedy or catastrophe happen on the eve of his election, he will have tough time with swing voters and if you think these proposals are bad, imagine what will be the case if a Dem enters office. So many seats in Texas alone are becoming battleground territory.

But regardless I pray he does what he believes is right, not just what is politically calculating.

Eventually, they are going to come up with some red-flag nutcase law....where any individual under treatment will require a physician handling him to report the ‘red-flag’ person to some database, and cops will come to temporarily confiscate their weapons. All this will do, it’ll create a large segment of society who refuses mental help and we accelerate the occurrences.

I could even see people who are prescribed Oxycontin...being put on a red-flag situation.

It doesn’t fix or resolve the situation....it just creates greater conflict, and more stupid behavior that hurts all of us in the end.

We do need a meaningful red flag law but make it national. Otherwise we will get some states, such as California, New Jersey, etc., that will set ridiculous levels. Maybe a family with kids, kids mention guns at school, police raid and collect them just because they were mentioned. I can imagine are most anti-gun states abusing red flag laws just as they have abused the 2nd amendment to basically ban guns anyway.

If they are so dangerous you want to seize their guns why not commit them?

So you take their gun and they are now pissed and hop in the car and take out a dozen on the sidewalk. If suicidal, maybe they OD deliberately.

The red flag is a tyranny. There are other laws on the books to allow temporary commitment. Red flag focus on guns and not the person should be telling.

The guy in MD that was killed was animated over a political argument with family. Those that knew him best said he was always like that. The aunt that complained just disagreed with him and was “frightened”. Gary Willis.

They need the tools to get to these nut cases.

"Red Flags" are mostly called in by anonymous persons, relatives, or "friends."

Those subject to the SWAT raids have their guns taken from them, and to hell with due process. They are guilty, and have to prove their innocence and competence against a system that has already taken violent, drastic action to deem them neither.

You may be a "nutcase." Post your home address.

You are so right. We have seen so much due process lately. IRS targetting didn’t happen because there is no abuse of power.
Loretta blood in the streets lynch, Epstein, hillary and her immunity staff and all the others had due process applied, and we can trust our government to do the same.
Just like our founders trusted them

Bull fertilizer, the “due process occurs after the fact NOT before confiscation occurs. The penalty precedes being found guilty of anything. You are assumed guilty of mental illness until you prove otherwise.

“Due Process” will require lawyers and doctors at your cost to prove you are not going to at some future date commit a crime with a weapon or commit suicide.
