In the old days large cities had more than one newspaper. So of course it was comfortable to have one called ‘the Democrat’ or ‘Republican’ etc. Later things devolved into a morning paper and an afternoon paper with the afternoon paper being more local... then the dominate papers would buy out the smaller papers.

All southern papers were democrat and racist - and started changing in the 60’s when the big flip happened. The papers stayed democrat and the old racists running the papers went from ‘blacks can do no right’ to ‘black can do no wrong’.

When I was young papers had more than one edition in a day. So I would buy the Chicago Sun (two star edition) and a few hours later pick up the (Chicago Sun) four star edition with updated news. At least that’s how I remember it - it was over 50 years ago... could have been the Chicago Defender ... I think the Tribune put out an afternoon paper too... not sure.. There’s a logical reason why paper are liberal even though it’ll destroy them in the long run... while helping them in the short run but it’s boring to talk about...
