Perhaps he used Hispanics because he does not realize that many from Latin America have little or no Spanish blood. Brazil has a large population with many Portuguese inputs but few Spanish. There are probably more illegals coming from Central American countries than Mexico these days. They are often mostly Indian, with little European. At any rate Latino is more generic than Hispanic. Time will tell us more about authorship.
Latino would have been more accurate in that situation. But I can assure you they are all generally called Mexicans by us Texans right now. And yeah, the illegal immigrant problem has shifted. From Central America and Africa now.
