And to some degree, that’s what I’m afraid of.
There are two many people out there crying “We need to do something” - IOW, gun control, gun registration, etc. They are playing to the soccer moms (many of who voted Dem in 2018), weak males, millennials, etc.
I love my wife dearly. She’s an Independent leaning Republican. But yesterday, she’s saying to me “We need to do something. We need to act”. She was all riled up about this.
There was no talking to her and I suspect that there’ll be no talking to the above-mentioned segment of the population when it comes to this issue.
I fear that when Congress reconvenes (or even in my state) that gun control bills will be flying around legislative chambers like locusts in a wheat field. The pressure is gonna be very hard for even many pro-gun GOP legislators to resist.
There’s some out there that call people like me concern trolls - but I’ve worked and volunteered on enough elections to get a clear sense of how Democrats work an issue and the means by which the work it.
We’ll definitely have our work cut out for us.
What exactly do we need to do? Limit the constitutional guns right of tens of millions of law-abiding citizens to prevent a few mentally disturbed criminals from doing what they end up doing? Where's the balance? Where's the cure?
The evil few are going to be evil no matter what sane people do. You can't stop evil people from doing what their deranged brains are telling them to do. Without guns, they'd just do it with knives or some other weapons.
I dont think a free society can stop every evil act of a mentally disturbed individual. Its the downside of freedom. But the alternative, government control, is worse.
So we live with these mass killing events because it is the unfortunate cost of freedom for the rest of the society. It is the horrible price we pay for remaining free.
>> Well definitely have our work cut out for us.
First we have to keep our wives in line. This war is being fought on the home front.
