re the cases where a second suspect conveniently disappears. could it be undercover FBI guys are running these ops, grooming the perps, and then easily melting away - as legal officers - once the shootings are done? sometimes it seems that is the only logical explanation.

Sort of like the Joe Colombo hit. Factions in his family wanted him dead, they hired a black guy to do the hit at a Italian Pride Event. Once the hitman shot Colombo a mademan shot him to look like the hero.

Indeed. It seems like all of these mass shootings, the early reports are multiple shooters, and then eventually the official narrative is that it was just one patsy perpetrator.
