I have a good friend who did three tours in Iraq, got a bronze star with a “V”, saw some time in the original invasion, and commanded troops in combat. He has two Purple Hearts. But because his rating was not infantry, he wasn’t eligible for a CIB. He has a Combat Action Badge ( or whatever the non infantry award is.)
