It is hard to put a price on saving the planet - but Google now has an eye-watering tab to show for its attempt.

The tech giant spent an estimated $20million on an extravagant climate change bash for a host of A-list celebrities this week, flying hundreds of guests across the world and treating them to three days of luxury at a Sicilian seaside resort.

The 800-tonne, metric tons, was just for the 114 private jets. As a comparison the average American emits 16.4 metric tons of carbon a year. So 1 private jet emitted 6.8 metric tons or over 40% of an Americans annual output. The figure does not include the celebrities driving around Maseratis, the rich who went to Sicily by yacht, the attendants enjoying boating on the Med, and the carbon footprint of all the food, luxury accommodations, etc.

As usual, the Brit tabloid features lots of great photos. Not sure who or what Katy Perry is except she is quite a sweat hog without her makeup.

While many in Europe are dying in the recent heatwave for want of air conditioning, these celebrities are flying in in private jets, sailing in their luxury yachts, being chauffeured in Maserati SUVs and certainly not wanting for air conditioning. They would have us serfs sweltering or freezing in our darkened homes in sacrifice to Mother Gaia, but don’t think they would give up their carbon gluttony. What hypocrites.

Pffffttttt! Manbearpig is likely ponying up credits for them as we speak. Probably free too. I mean it’s hard to put a price on nothing.

“On the final night, Google spends close to $100,000 renting the 2,500-year-old Valley of the Temples ruins for a concert and sit-down meal.”
