NATO ‘Ally’ Germany Won’t Back U.S. in Gulf to Avoid War with Ira
Breitbart ^ | July 31,2019 | CHRIS TOMLINSON

Posted on 07/31/2019 7:43:32 AM PDT by Hojczyk

The U.S. has requested naval cooperation from Germany in the Strait of Hormuz as tensions with Iran escalate, but the political leaders of the European nation have refused to assist their NATO allies.

The German Federal Foreign Office said that Washington has approached them to contribute to a new surveillance mission in the Persian Gulf but had rejected the appeal saying there was no prospect of a contribution, German tabloid Bild reports.

Another foreign office source told the tabloid: “Participation in the American strategy of maximum pressure is out of the question for us.” He added the German government was looking instead to use diplomatic means to “de-escalate tensions”. Germany, along with the European Union, has been a keen supporter of the failed Iran nuclear deal, which could be the diplomatic measures to which the spokesman was referring.

A spokesman for the U.S. embassy to Germany confirmed: “We have formally asked Germany to work with France and Britain to help secure the Strait of Hormuz and fight Iranian aggression.”

Germany’s position contrasts strongly with that of South Korea, which is not a member of the NATO alliance, but which nonetheless is considering contributing to the security of the Persian Gulf, Breitbart London reported.

I think “greed” figures in but historically, going back centuries, Germany seemingly NEVER makes the RIGHT decision long term for Germany on Foreign Policy. It’s just in their DNA. Or, maybe their diet.

I just bought my fourth German made car last year. I've finally come to the realization that Germany is our enemy...in every way but militarily.

My recent purchase is my last...guaranteed!

For 100+ years Germans have been trying to destroy Europe. I fear that their most recent strategy just might work.

Trump and Pompeo will have something to say about this that we FReepers will enjoy.

They can say what they want. It won't change anything where Europe is concerned.

Not their circus, not their monkeys.

We shouldn’t be there either. The entire Middle East isn’t worth the blood of one U.S serviceman or one taxpayer dollar.

I’m past tired of my tax dollars going to play world cop. We don’t need the oil, let those who do deal with Iran.

AMEN

The only troops outside of our borders should be strategically placed spec ops units and a few nuke subs.

I’m tired of the stupid fascist BS of ‘fight them over there’- all that strategy does is enrich the military industrial complex and make even more enemies.

If people want to play world cop, let them do it with their own money, not our tax dollars.

We still have allies in Europe. The UK is the primary one. The Eastern Europe nations of Poland, Czech Republic and Rumania are a few. It’s the countries like France and Germany who are the issue.

South Korea imports all its oil and gas, and mainly from the Saudis and the Gulf states. Germany gets 2/3 of its natural gas from Russia as well as almost 40% of its oil imports. Both nations are behaving on self-interest more than alliances. If only the U.S. would state that that is what is going on with Germany, quite often, do more of the same for itself, and call the Europeans on the carpet for hypocrisy when they claim the U.S. is acting on its own and not as a “good partner”.

Turks have a lot of power in Germany, and they don’t want to fight their Muslim brothers.

It’s really not our fight. Let the Germans protect their own energy lifeline - or just buy oil from us

Firstly, Germany is no ally. Let’s make no mistake about that.

Secondly, their military is so weak and the country’s spine so much weaker than even the pathetic Bundeswehr that they wouldn’t be able to contribute anything of significant military value even if they were willing.

Finally, they are the biggest no morals or conscience money grubbing whores imaginable. I distinctly remember debating Germany’s policy of “constructive engagement” with Iran with one of my German professors when I was an exchange student. That was 1993.

When they’re not taking the mullah blood money, it was taking Castro’s blood money and Saddam’s blood money - they were PISSED when we made that impossible by getting rid of Saddam. They’ve already built one massive pipeline from Russia and are building another.

Eff them. Withdraw from NATO. Bring the boys home and let those leeches suffer the consequences of their failure to provide for their own defense.

This I agree with. Continue to increase domestic oil and gas production and get Keystone built to import more from Canada. Then withdraw from the Middle East. When the Straits of Hormuz are closed and the Yurps inevitably turn to us and scream “You’ve got to DO something!” We can just shrug our shoulders and tell them we’ve decided to let them sort things out for themselves from now on.

True......but it’s more than just Germany and France. Where are all the other Western Europeans? Time and again, except for Britain they’re just not there. We cannot count on them.

That’s no alliance.

I'd say diet. Have you seen some of that sour slop? Old joke: Isn't German food the reason they invaded France?

I want to know why the British consider food a form of punishment. Spotted dick, blood pudding. Are they serious?

IMO, Trump won’t go for a German smack down until after the election.
