The New Shame of the Cities, Perazzo's pamphlet for the David Horowitz Freedom Center, is a vital counterweight to the mendacious cries of racism that have descended on President Trump for daring to speak the truth about Baltimore and Rep. Elijah Cummings.
“Black congressman, majority-black district. ‘No human being would want to live there.’ Is he saying people that live in Baltimore are not human beings?” Chris Wallace blathered on FOX News.
As John Perazzo demonstrates, people don't want to live there. Not since the Democrat machine - that Rep. Cummings is part of - ruined Charm City.
"Today Baltimore’s population has declined to 622,000," Perazzo notes in The New Shame of the Cities. "As a result of Baltimore’s multiple social, economic, and educational problems, some 47,000 abandoned houses and 16,000 vacant buildings now stand like pulled teeth in Baltimore’s once vibrant but now depleted and depressed neighborhoods."

As a young military man, I had the experience of having to travel through the Baltimore airport while enroute. Prior to landing we were told that we had to do our waiting in the airport because of “bad elements” around the airport that were dangerous and there were recent attacks.
We stayed in the airport. That was in 1962. That was 57 years ago.
People vote with their feet...
It is a shame because Baltimore could be such a great city.
All one has to do is look at the history of democrats running a city to understand why they’re failing like they are.
John Hopkins was founded in the late 1800’s... They’re not able to easily walk away... but if Baltimore continues on it’s path to hellhole they will be forced to leave.
Trump’s started the real discussion... it’s about time the country got real on the issue of race - and the race hucksters who create the hellholes in exchange for reliable voters and power.
But don’t worry Democrats, your crack houses are thriving.
There are a lot of cities like Baltimore. They are failures because they are a concentration of non-producers living off the efforts of producers. Most producers have fled the city, so the state takes money from them through state taxes, and sends it to the cities, calling it “state aid to cities,” but it’s a transfer of money from those who earn it to parasites.
The dems like it this way. They want a high concentration of dependent, ignorant, indolent people so they can promise them salvation, if they would only vote democrat. And they vote democrat, and the next year they are poor, so the dems tell them Whitey is to blame, and to get back at Whitey, they have to vote dem and send more money, and the next year they are poor again.
They elect incompetent, corrupt politicians who look like the residents, to make the residents think that they care about them, which they don’t.
I have little sympathy. The residents keep voting for incompetent, corrupt politicians who look like them. And they get what they deserve.
Pity any producer who lives in a city like that!

The tragedy of Baltimore is the incompetence of leadership since about 1975. The Mayor needs to be an administrator, not a politician. An understanding of the mechanics of the many departments, personal relationships with supervisors, an ability to coordinate several agencies in one project, not of the current leadership has even an inkling of what to do about anything. For them if is all politics. In truth none of the solutions are political.
Baltimore once had a population of about 900,000. Quick back of the envelope calc shows a decline of about 30% over the past few decades.
Clearly many people do not want to.live there. Those who have the ability to.move out have done so.
Unfortunately, the false narrative that “better government” is all the poor citizens of Baltimore need will continue on.

I’ve never been there but heard it’s a pretty wild place.
I visited Baltimore in 1972. We were driving across the USA, my dad and 3 brothers and me. We went to see the USS Constellation which is a sister ship of the USS Constitution, Old Ironsides. Having been on Old Ironsides twice before we were looking forward to seeing the Constellation.
We were able to walk on the streets of downtown Baltimore and felt no fear or worry whatsoever. My dad bought a Ford station wagon from a car lot right in Baltimore.
The other unspoken problem the large cities have is the concurrent rise of shopping centers and the suburbs with the burning cities from race riots in the mid to late 60s. Black folks burned down their own neighborhood businesses and no one moved back in, except the rats. The large cities have never been the same since.
The northwestern part of Baltimore was largely Jewish. The Jews and other people living in West Baltimore used public schooling heavily.
With the Fair Housing Act of 1968, the Jews bolted to Pikesville and beyond. Other whites bolted mainly westward.
East Baltimore was largely Catholic white and used tuition-funded Catholic schools. It remained fairly stable. I haven’t been there for over 40 years so I don’t know its current status.
The whole city declined somewhat as Baltimore lost industry.
The blacks, who historically lived to the east and west of downtown in the pre-1918 city limits, moved quickly to the western half of Baltimore and more slowly to the northeast.
The north central and certain northwestern parts of Baltimore remained and remain affluent.
The affluent blacks tend to live in West Baltimore’s Windsor Hills and Ten Hills. Ten Hills is racially mixed and remains a high-quality environment.
When’s Rachel Maddow or some other talking-lib going to do a week of shows from the streets of Charm City.

Democratic Mayor Schaffer (mayor December 1971-January 1987)was respected and did a fairly good job for the city. The State of Maryland did a good job helping the city financially. Schaffer later became the governor.
I suspect the housing problems to be a legacy of the Bush era real estate boom and bust. The easy credit to the unworthy led to similar problems (patchwork->widespread blight) I saw in Newark, NJ in the 1970’s.
Nancy Pelosi’s brother was mayor from 1967 to 1971.
Her father was mayor from 1947 to 1959.
