Growing demands: The protests began against a now-suspended extradition bill, but have since broadened to include calls for democracy and police accountability.

I hope and pray that we don’t see another Tiananmen Square type of massacre but this time in Hong Kong.
These protests help show yet again, that in spite of free market reforms, China is still a ruthless dictatorship.

The 50 year agreement of separate governance in Hong Kong expires in 2047.
By then they will be just like any other city in China, whatever it takes.

That would be one YUGE stick for President Trump to beat him with along with all the trade tariffs, IP theft, their already poor human rights record and the crackdown on Christian Chinese house churches.

The Chinese have had a taste of prosperity and any slowdown of the economy is going to cause very real problems for the government. When the Chinese government can no longer keep it’s economy propped up is when the riots start.
They’ve been lucky to date by blaming the US for trying to “take Chinese jobs away”. Yeah, really.
When the trickle of jobs leaving China for cheaper locales like Vietnam, Thailand and elsewhere turns into a flood all bets are off.
