I remember my first trip to D.C. twenty years ago for a week long training session.

After dinner, I left alone in search of a lottery ticket.

Wandered down a long street where I could see a 7-11 type store still open.

I couldn't figure out why everyone was staring at me like I was from Mars.

Then I realized, white guy, white shirt and tie....and the only white guy in the store.

They were clearly wondering what the heck I was doing in there....

DC has changed a lot in the past twenty years. 14th Street used to be a “no go” zone. When I visited several years ago, I was amazed at the transformation. Massive gentrification everywhere except SE.
