I had a 2 lb, 9 week old puppy that ate an entire Costco double chocolate muffin in about 4 minutes. I couldn’t believe he ate the whole damned thing!
He lived to 18 1/2 years.
Chocolate *might* kill *SOME* dogs.
Our first dog got into a bag of candy bars - ate them all. We freaked out and the vet said to give him ippecac to make him throw up. “They can’t stand the taste so you’ll have to force it down.”
Not our dog - he lapped it up. Nothing happened. He was 70 pounds or so. After the third bottle (we had little kids) the vet told us to take him to the emergency room. The dog was fine. Pooped wrappers for a few days.
He ended up getting into some chocolate again but we didn’t notice it for a day or more. I guess he was one of those dogs not bothered by chocolate.
Pumpkin is another one that I guess can be bad if too much. Somebody told us to give our dog (another one) some pumpkin to help with something (rash?? ). So we gave him a small can with his food and he gulped it down. Did that for a few times. Rash was still there.
So I looked it up online. Something like: “Some rashes can be cleared up with pumpkin. Give him a tablespoon with his food, but never give more than 4 tablespoons in a day. Too much pumpkin can cause death.” (Okay - maybe not death - but it was something pretty serious).
So in a panic we call our vet again. “Two cans!? Oh - that is a lot. Is he showing any signs of x,y or z? NO!? Boy you have another one with a strong constitution! Well, just watch him, but I’m sure he’ll be fine. But cut down on the pumpkin!”
