Um, what about the ongoing intellectual property (IP) theft, forced technology transfers, forced ‘joint ventures’. non-tariff trade barriers, currency manipulation, etc. etc.?
The part you’re right about is that Trump’s actions are long overdue, but what Trump “gets” is that in all the above ways, our financial relationship with China has been about China getting stronger by being unchallenged by one President after another.

At this point there’s probably enough time to expect US businesses to have shifted more of their supply chain away from China. So given negotiations are at a standstill, time to hit ‘em with another round of tariffs.
