FLAGSTAFF, AZ (3TV/CBS 5)-- Fire crews are battling a new fire north of Flagstaff.
The "Museum Fire", located just two miles north of Flagstaff, was reported just before 11 a.m. Sunday and so far has burned more than 200 acres.

Its more than 200 acres. At least 300.
I have been told where it started and how it started but not confirmed yet.
My good friends have been called to fight it since they are on the fire crews.
Its growing FAST and looks to me it might have crowned.
Stay safe
I cant work on them anymore. Lung problems. Since I was up in OR last year putting in fire lines for a private person, I have been fighting my breathing problems.
Why can’t you ‘speculate’ how it started?
Good thing the City of Flagstaff passed restrictive ‘Smoke-Free Air Ordinance’ laws. /s
They've been thinning up there since last fall. Now depending on which contract area they have been logging in, there is a mountain of slash built up as well has a whole lot of log decks.
If that gets into those slash piles/logging decks, and I have not much doubt it has by the smoke plume, it spells big trouble. But that depends if they have removed the decks and ground that slash. This I dont know.
I was supposed to go up and help with the operations up there in my spare time but never did get up there-to busy where I am working.
They have a helicopter crew and a conventional operation going up there.
Oh! Dear - A reminder of the worst one in AZ when the 19 firefighters were killed; Yarnell with the Granite Mountain Hot Shot crew in 2013. We have a friend whose two nephews were killed in that firestorm - one son of her brother and one son of her sister. Terrible loss for the families and others from Prescott...Prayers for the firefighters on this fire. They deserve the nation’s respect and honor in all that they do during this horrible season. Let’s hope it’s not the beginning of another fire season for any of the states but a lone event!
The guy I work for is a hand faller on a fire crew and knew a lot of those guys.
Still have the Cellar Fire going, about 20 miles south of Prescott Valley AZ. Much larger fire but no large population centers threatened.

There goes Flags watershed area.
The city gets some of their water from up round there.
400 acres. Thats about a rate of 80 or so acres per hour.
“”The guy I work for is a hand faller on a fire crew and knew a lot of those guys.””
I had forgotten about it this year and when I saw this news, I thought it was in July 2013 but I see it happened the very last days of June that year...I believe I have a book that was written about it and there was a movie made. We don’t get out to movies anymore so would have missed it. A very hard thing to forget for the families. The one nephew I referred to was from CA and the other one, his cousin was from Prescott. The cousin’s sister has been pursuing training/schooling in fire fighting. So much tragedy in so many families in this country and the news concentrates on the losers and the ones who are offended over imaginary insults or slights! We’re all offended by those losers and those who are offended! We need concentration on the winners like these families moving on and who raised such sons.
We were just up there last weekend. How close to the Observatory?
It is north of the city.
The Observatory is west of the city.
I’d say about 10 miles or so, as the crow flies.
I guess they thought they were in a safe zone and then the wind changed direction.
At least that is what I was told.
That whole area is full of juniper and a fire in that stuff really goes.
