Real history was the SS took over the rocket program AFTER the V2 finally worked (well enuf) - it had taken years (and almost missed the war), including working from well before WW2 started - they had one problem after another - it was a complex NEW technology with problems never seen before (They don’t call it “ROCKET SCIENCE” for nothing). Von Braun ran the large Peenemünde research facility (up on the Baltic Sea coast) - working originally for the German Army Artillery department.
Himmler had instantly made Von Braun a SS Sturmbannfüehrer (major) to force authority over him (upto that time Von Braun was a civilian). People generally didnt say NO to Himmler. It was the SS who then built the Underground rocket factories (Hartz mountains - Mittelwerk rocket factory and the Dora-Mittelbau camp) for the V2 war production using THEIR forced laborers from other countries and concentration camp inmates (the SS controlled all of that across every country German controlled) - Von Braun had little to do with those factories as he kept producing design improvements at his research facilities).

Luckily the comments under this sorry article in the Daily Fail are definitely calmer and more matter-of-fact, as well as being not totally bereft of common sense, for the most part.
