PING!
They say that my area has the worst traffic in the nation but once you learn the backroads - all is good!
From 695 and north from Baltimore all the way to the Jersey Turnpike.
That’s the problem with Northern Virginia: there are no back roads. If you think of DC as the center of a circle, I-66 is about 270 degrees W; I-95/US-1 are about 210 degrees SW... There is not a single road heading in-and-out between those two roads. Imagine having to take I-95 from New York to New London, or else go up by way of I-87 to I-90 to I-290/I-395. That’s what it’s like.
... and I should note that at Gainesville, I-66 becomes more like 290 degrees W, and I-95/US-1 becomes more like 170 degrees South at Fredericksburg.
Thanks to radical environmentalists and other lions, they and Clinton killed the Baltimore/Washington by-pass.
That by-pass would be safe and speed up traffic, saving lives, time and resources.
I95 from Florence going up towards where one exits to Raleigh is miserable too.
I like using route 136 in lieu of the Merritt and route 35/100 in lieu of the Saw Mill.
First time ever this past Thursday I had to drive from downtown Alexandria to Manassas at rush hour.
30 miles and it took me 80 minutes

I-95. Pshaw.
For nightmare traffic the 405 over the Sepulveda Pass retired the prize years ago.
Today’s traffic,

Have you ever driven I-75 going through Atlanta Ga? At rush hour?.. even midnight is rush hour on that interstate.
Construction on OR-97 this week near mile 193. Expect delays.
We use to take 95 from Florence to TV road going to Myrtle Beach. It’s a death trap. Now we skip 95 and Florence and go through the town of Quimby after going through Darlington.
And it’s reading the posts that make me wonder why ANYONE in their right mind would even want to live near a big city like that and put themselves through that EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. ALL. THE. TIME.
Rt 50 or even Rt 29 were overlooked and often the best option. That was 20 years ago, so maybe not any more.
Is that the one where the watermelons roll off the back of the farm trucks traveling south?
Hi.
What about Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Jacksonville?
