Arizona Dem Kyrsten Sinema joins GOP in push for program that would quickly deport migrants

Freshman Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., was one of a number of Democrats to join Republican colleagues this week who called for the implementation of a pilot program that would work to quickly identify and deport migrants at the border who are judged not to have a valid asylum claim.

Sinema, along with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Doug Jones, D-Ala., joined Republicans in writing to President Trump urging the implementation of Operation Safe Return -- a Department of Homeland Security pilot program that that would focus on quickly identifying, processing and returning family units who do not have valid asylum claims in the U.S.

“Through this program, we expect that we can meet our commitments to humanitarian protections while ensuring proper efficiency, timeliness, order, and fairness in the credible fear screening process,” the letter said. “We also expect that Operation Safe Return will help us examine current process deficiencies, identify required increases in capacity, and understand the drivers of migration.”

Politics is so bizarre. Leave it to the GOP to give the other Senate seat to the DNC next time around.

Agree, Seems she votes with Republicans more than McCain did though.

...And Sinema will win again, while McSally will lose to Mr. Gabby Giffords next year...

I was a frequent visitor in AZ during the 2018 campaign.

As much as we don't want to hear this, Sinema was a much better campaigner than McSally.

I never saw even one positive McSally ad. Only negatives toward Cinema.

Sinema had plans, programs, and a positive message.

If we want McSally to win this next election we need to send her a lot of campaign help and our donations. Giffords is very weak on 2A. He can be beaten. But pictures of McSally that emphasize her military background and then do nothing to promote a positive message are going to lose once again.

absolutely agree with you on McSally's campaign.

I live in Scottsdale, my house is next to one of the canals and next to the major foot path leading to the canal trail. (i.e. a high foot/bike traffic area). I contacted her campaign via e-mail to request signs. No response.

Contacted them a second time. No response.

But I am now on her mailing list for campaign contributions!

McCain was there when the Dems really needed his vote, so I see no difference at the moment between Sinema and McCain.

I never imagined that the other side had such bigoted racists also.

What next, are we going to find out they are homophobic too?

My feeling is she has been ordered to pretend to be a moderate until the RATS capture the other Senate Seat from McSally.
Then you will see RAT

I read through the draft of the bill. There are a lot of arbitrary timelines. I think is was 72 hours for the initial determination. If you get past that then it’s 15(?) days max to get a decision from a judge. Then they’re released into the community if they “promise” to show up for the next hearing.

She’s better than McCain. She’s on our side occasionally.
