Brenda Lopez Romero was about 12 years old when she and her father stopped at a diner just north of Helen.
As they walked in, several white men stood up from their table. Are you lost? they said. Did you just cross the river? Then that phrase: You need to go back where you came from.A native of Mexico, Lopez Romero remembers the sting of those racist taunts.
Lopez Romero, now a 36-year-old immigration attorney, state representative from Gwinnett County and candidate for U.S. Congress, says she never thought she would hear similar language coming from the President of the United States.
Gwinnett is a community where a full quarter of its nearly 1 million residents are foreign-born and about two-thirds are black, Latino or Asian and where a longtime Republican foothold is quickly diminishing, meaning comments like Trumps tweets could have an enormous effect during a 2020 election season thats sure to be volatile and racially charged.

They were not “racist” and Donald Trump couldn’t care less about a bunch of nobodies in Gwinnett County.
While the thousands of us lurking and Posting here know that there were no Racist Tweets, Millions of People are being told by every News Outfit (including Fox News) that the POTUS sent out Racist Tweets to those poor innocent Women of Color.
Repeat a Lie often enough and it becomes the truth.
That’s exactly what we are seeing . . . again!
How long till it’s learned that there never was a diner N of Helen, no such incident ever occurred, and that Brenda Lopez Romero ‘fabricated’ this story?
White is a color
White is by definition not a color.
Black is by definition the absence of all colors.
But words mean what Liberals define them to mean.
hmmm, what color are they?
And you still haven't, Ms. Romero.
The Democrat Media made this stuff up out of whole cloth, just like the #FinePeopleHoax.
This is the #GoBackToYourCountryHoax.
Gwinnett County’s racist leftist legislators trouble me.
It's a Georgia liberal.
Newspapers will be so surprised when Trump wins again. They will wonder why they were unable to fix the election again.
“Color” is mentioned only by the racists of the Democrat/Left ... and there are plenty of them!
Helen, Ga. likes to think of itself as a replica of a Swiss Village. North of Helen is a bunch of trees and small roaring streams of water. And how many times has a Latino in California refered to a White person as a gringo?
Racism now means everything the Democrats don’t like and what voodoo smear tag can we throw against patriotic Americans.
Awwwwwwwwwww
Tis a pity
Always victims
Never perpetrators
Makes us wonder how such perfect people have so many complaints
Or wanted his shirts white with starch? Got it.
“...of color...”??? What absolute nitwits. No one is clear. I laugh at the lack of professionalism among the so-called “journalists”. What pathetic losers...wasting their worthless lives.
Gwinnett schools need to start teaching reading again. It’s obvious the schools are a huge failure since the county legislators can’t read or maybe they’re getting their news from the fake news networks.
Casper?
Romero represents the Pinkneyville area of Gwinnett county. Lots of apartments with illegal aliens.
It might fun to go to a couple of her town halls and see how she responds to some questioning about her comments.
I love stirring the pot and putting people on the spot. I also have contacts in the media that I can inform them to show up for some good quality reporting.
I was the First voice of dissent against the MARTA tax earlier this year. Our group was responsible for killing the tax.
I’m pretty sure the word Racist is now officially over. It’s now simply a meaningless and idiotic statement that is completely partisan...it’s like saying “he’s worse than Hitler!”
