Not only have Americans died for this flag, millions have voluntarily raised their right hands and sworn an oath to protect and defend. Up to and including dying if required to protect and defend. There are no special dispensations when swearing the oath joining the armed forces. Basically when you take it your telling Uncle Sam to do with you as he will. Thanks to those having served. Still have a hard time grasping how anyone who has can end up a lib. But we all know it happens. Too much. My oath has been in effect for 50+ years now.

(Personal background) I will hit the 50 year mark next month and have not (will not) ignore my oath to protect and defend the Constitution.

Some years back, there was some hoorah about a Michigan or Wisconsin regiment that had captured a Confederate battle flag and the southern state represented by that unit wanted it back. The MI/WI government said "no". I will admit that my first reaction was that they should simply give it back. Since then, I have reversed my opinion. The loss of that battle flag not only represents the heroism of the Confederate color guard, but also the heroism of the Union troops who would have fought bitterly to capture it. Flags are not just trophies political symbols; they can also be emblems of dedication and sacrifice - something that the Left will likely never appreciate since they tend to view everything in the abstract.

When I was discharged from the USMC waaaaay back in the day the officer in charge specifically mentioned that while my obligation to the Marine Corps was fulfilled my oath to “support and defend” the Constitution was most assuredly not.

I’ve not forgotten that. Not to this very day.
