John McCain passed a law similar to Frederica's sentiments called the McCain Feingold bill. It disallowed ANY criticism, of politicians 60 days before an election. No negative ads were allowed to speak unkindly of politicians running for office.

He got the entire congress to pass his first amendment violation law, I loathed him beginning the day that was passed.

This is what you said in the first paragraph. You than added in the second paragraph that he got the entire congress to pass his first Amendment violation law. Are you saying the House voted for it too?

Obviously you are not aware that Congress consists of the Senate and the lower House : The House of Representatives. Meaning your congressman who is due for reelection every two years.
