The Upper East Side was more or less solidly GOP and was cal,led THE SILK STOCKING DISTRICT and it sent GOPers to Congress all the time! It's also where the GOP Clubs, including THE YOUNG REPUBLICANS, was and still is located! And when Mr. Nixon was elected president, many from the latter organization worked on his campaign and were invited to the Inaugurals and ball!
And Columbia had less than nothing at all to do with the UWS being liberal and then, somewhat later, faaaaaaaaaaaaaar lefty/Commie!
I was a Young Republican! Oh, I loved that group. Some nice people. I remember being with them the night the 1st Gulf War was declared and we knelt down in prayer. At a local Indian restaurant, lol!
