Looks like we have a Freerepublic mystery to solve!
Nope! I have met her on more than one occasion, and can certify that she is female, a nice lady and a fine FReeper!
Not a problem; see my post #42.
I noticed her response and she is a lady. Mystery solved!
Several power outages in the New Iberia area. So far, not affecting me.
It looks like Patterson, Morgan City, and the Houma areas are taking the hardest hits.
Hiya Taxman! Great to see you! Hoping you and yours are happy, healthy and all that jazz.
Well, since I’ve met her personally and had dinner with her and her FReeper husband, I’m sure they’ll both be amusedly surprised by your declaration!
She’s a pretty girl. NOT a guy.
You tell 'em, AB! LOL!
Interesting ... not much rain produced so far as of 7:03 PM CDT Saturday the 13th ...
It has been raining lightly off and on for the last hour or so. The winds have gusted at times but for the most part havent been too strong. We still have power as well.
Doing well, TYVM!
Gulfport, MS....rain stopped yesterday afternoon (not a huge amount like what was predicted) and forecast says a couple inches on the way but RADAR shows the bands to be just west of the state line between us and LA.
Can feel for those in LA - was jammed in NOLA last Wednesday trying to get to Ochsners for an appt....the whole track of Barry is along what is basically a flood plain/marshy area with nothing to stop the surge/flooding.
We lost power around 11PM, still out. The wind and rain has been fairly constant for the past four or five hours. It looks like we are stuck in one of those rain bands as it comes ashore. I expect lots of flooding in the New Iberia-Lafayette area, especially where many of the new subdivisions have cropped up around Youngsville.
You know claims of this sort usually require photographic evidence. LOL. It has been a long time, Alas!
Final update from the Sham home. Power is back on and other than a few downed limbs next door there is no damage done. At this time, most of New Iberia is still without power but other than that I haven’t seen anything major in the way of damages or flooding. Thankfully, the projected rainfall did not occur.
ope this finds you in decent shape...always sucks when power goes out and especially so when you have heat/humidity to deal with. Barry did cool us off for a couple days so that’s a plus in the mess and muck.
I got lucky - live in eastern limits of Gulfport, MS and all the feeder bands on Saturday stayed east of us and we fared really well...most of the bad stuff sandwiched us but left a relatively clear spot around us compared to other areas.
Everything is good here. This storm was an unusual one in that we didn’t feel the impact until well after the center had passed. The impact more resembled some of the larger storms we’ve had in that it lasted much longer due to the slow speed of the storm itself. Those rain bands seemed unending at times. You just never know with these tropical systems what to expect.
Glad all is well - i watched Barry come across the Gulf and it looked awful dry for most of the journey - very few hard storms showing on the RADAR and they didn’t start filling in until 12-15 hours before he made landfall. Then, most of the bands were way to the east and didn’t tighten in to the SE zone until after landfall...you’re right, it was a strange one...
Glad it didn’t trash as many as it could have if it had been organized more “conventionally”...
Here’s to another hurricane-free (let’s not count Barry unless we need a statistic to reduce the chances of another...)...season
