Funny, I managed to sneak away for a couple hours this morning and caught a nice bunch of healthy, feisty bluegill, and there are many dozens of public access lakes and ponds within a couple hours of me where this can be done easily. Most are anywhere from pretty to beautiful, several I’d drink water from directly in a pinch (except maybe not after heavy rains - muddy, then), and only a couple I worry at all about pollutants contaminating the fish — and even then it’s only a modest worry for perhaps my daughter with larger predatory fish — in 7-8” bluegill the levels are so low even there as to not be of any real concern. (Oddly, the “cleanest” lake has the highest mercury in the bass - apparently from some submerged rock formations, and the lake with the lowest [almost amazingly so] mercury in the predatory fish is, get this, a power plant cooling lake with a big honking coal power plant on its shore.)
The number of private ponds and lakes with excellent, healthy, and healthy to eat, fish populations, in the same area, I could not even begin to guess. There must be many hundreds, at least.
Probably the most suspect waterbodies, rivers, are commercially fished for low contaminant “wild caught” fish that are marketed to China’s high end consumers. Well, ok, I suppose “low contaminant”, when it comes to China, is a relative thing!
Then there are the waterbodies the Asian Carp have gotten into. Miley, baby, have you ever been in a boat or stood on a shore and had literally hundreds of fish “explode” (jump) out of the water in front of you? (These guys are good and VERY healthy to eat too, except they are a bit bony.)
This is not in any “special” place, I’m in the benighted (”conservative”) mid-south.
So, hey, Miley, tell you what. Why don’t you get an account here, PM me, and for a price that matches any reputable local guide near your Malibu home, I’ll show you & hubby lake after lake after lake (or pond) where there are literally tons of healthy fish. Call it a 2-week tour. Then you can go have your kid.
But, then, that (and the above “rant”) is really unnecessary. You are from Franklin, TN, and there are plenty of the same sort of spots all around there. That makes you, what? Ignorant of even the place you grew up in? Dishonest? Both?
