I believe we can get this done.
Those were the words from Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., Wednesday in support of removing marijuana from the Schedule I classification as labeled by the Controlled Substances Act.
A group of experts testified on Capitol Hill Wednesday in favor of changing federal laws to allow for the legal sale and use of marijuana, which was largely embraced by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle throughout the hearing.
Topics ranged from racial disparities among incarceration rates for possession, to the economic impact of legalizing the plant's use.
Cannabis Trade Federation CEO Neal Levin, who represents companies within the industry, noted the state-based cannabis industry today is not only serving consumers, but has also become a driver of economic growth and tax revenue in states across the country.
But having a federal law in the books making the product illegal has proven difficult for people who make their living in the legal sale and consumption of marijuana.
This gap between state and federal law also creates a tension for cannabis workers and employees who must show up to work every day knowing their activity could put them in danger of federal prosecution, Levin said.

Just look at Colorado or California
Isn’t that the horse running down the road?
“So what about smoking marijuana is better for your health?”
That is not the question on the table, anywhere.
The question is whether government should undertake to prevent people from doing what they are already doing.
Or, whether government should admit defeat and move on.
Legal pot has created leftist, apathetic, brain rotted zombies and does not come close to the bragged about benefits of legalization. Government drug pushing and government in the drug business is disgusting.
Don’t advertise your ignorance, pot is no more a “gateway drug” than milk. That whole idea is so illogical that Aristotle is turning over in his grave at a rapid pace.
The suicide of America.
It’s going to happen sooner or later. The only people in society who want to dig their heels in on this issue are an increasingly shrinking percentage of the voters.
Let us know when you start making sense, try a little weed it might help.
There are tax revenues to be collected.
There are law enforcement folks who can actually stop wasting time with pot arrests.
There is less for governments to stick their stupid noses into. Marijuana was legal with no problems until the New Deal.
One of the things missing is actual pertinent research into the problems it causes in the smoker.
The suicide of America.
Suicide is always descending on America,
but usually lands somewhere else.
Use hyperbole much? Learn a little US history about this subject.
“Can smokers sue?”
Once it’s legal, sure.
At this point, it’s kind of hard to sue some guy named Pedro who hangs out selling dimebags outside the Stop N Go.
I wonder what the gateway drug was that got Rush Limbaugh hooked on oxycontin. Oh yeah, must have been those big cigars he was always smoking. Maybe someone laced em with wacky tobacky.
I know you are joking but it is a serious point. He had a legitimate back injury which he started taking it for then, as often happens, got hooked.
Since alcohol is legal, does that make government in the alcohol business - and is that disgusting?
Legalize marijuana? What a Trainwreck. ;)
“Since alcohol is legal, does that make government in the alcohol business - and is that disgusting? “
They actually had the FDA evaluate and license the production of all opioids too. And Benzodiazepines. And all the SSRIs that make for suicide and mass killers.
I guess govt is in all sorts of nefarious businesses.
