With his endless flood of wealth and President-level bevvy of social contacts (grace a Ghistlane and Wexner) Epstein seemed the living embodiment of power and legitimacy.

Also, the fact of being in a private jet and being offshore and on island in the minds of many people "makes it okay".

A lot of non-lawyers might think there'd be no legal implications as "we're not in the USA under American law".

EXACTLY. Dersh was valuable in at least 2 ways: lawyerly assistance for a few rolls in the hay here and there; and as you say, what doesn’t put the cash in cachet like seeing OMGtheLeadingConstitutionalistHarvardTVAttorney gettin his freak on with the middle schooler right next to you?
