Is this as bad as it sounds or is it common after large earthquakes?
And why am I asking you? :)
I figured maybe since you posted it you know a thing or two about the subject :)

When I was in the Boy Scouts we stopped on our way back from a hike and went down into a fissure caused by the San Andreas fault. Ground level was hot — it was in the desert. Down inside the fissure it was cool as a refrigerator.

Did the scout master happen to tell you why?
I thought it would be opposite.

Before and after. If you look at the before photo on the left you can see what appears to be the scars of prior movement.

Now they have somewhere to put all that shit people are leaving on the streets.

Californication was plenty cracked to begin with

There was no volcanic gas escaping, it was just the natural cool temperature one finds beneath the surface of the earth.

Saw an article that said aftershocks were coming every 30 secs to 1 minute (this was the next day after the big one).
Don’t know if that’s true.

Geez, have they ever looked at the San Andreas? Even after a boat load of weathering, the crack is clear as can be.
Remember driving across the fault south of Palmdale, where it is visible as a rubble zone, wanting to get off it ASAP. Not a crack, but a zone of pulverized rock from all the grinding.
To: Enterprise
Soon, California may not be part of America.
To: SaveFerris
I think that is still true.
I’d like to see a plot of quake event magnitude vs. time.
Then a plot of quake distance from the 7.1 quake vs time.
