Kansas Republican Kris Kobach kicked off his campaign for the U.S. Senate Monday, sparking an immediate backlash from national Republicans who fear he could cost the party a seat it has held for eight decades.
The former Kansas secretary of state gathered supporters in Leavenworth Monday afternoon to officially announce his candidacy for the open Senate seat with a fiery speech that took aim at illegal immigration, the dangers of socialism and the unwillingness of Republican Party leaders to stand up for President Donald Trumps agenda.
President Trump needs a senator who will lead the charge for him, Kobach said. This is not a time for a quiet senator. Its not a time for a senator who wants to make everybody happy and doesnt want to take a stand. Its not a time for a senator who is Republican-lite.
Kobachs campaign launch comes less than a year after he lost the 2018 race for governor despite Trumps full-throated support in a state where Republicans outnumber Democrats 2 to 1.

Sad to see this as he can’t win. Hopefully the primary will have a different outcome than his run for Gov against Jeff Coyler.
So tell us why he can’t win? Why do Kansas Republicans not want him? Is he too liberal?
So tell us why he can’t win? Why do Kansas Republicans not want him? Is he too liberal?
... because he has already lost a statewide election.
Yeah, we should only vote for Bush League Republicans that want to meet the Democrats half-way on destroying the country...../s
Actually it’s the opposite problem. He’s fringe and “unacceptable”.
Too liberal? Kansas Republicans would rather be on the Dole than Trumped.
I agree with you. He is too far to the right. In KS when you get to far extreme right you get the democrat elected. this has happened in the Gov Race and 3rd district congressional race many times over they last 40 years.
That was a surprise to me.....hope it doesn't mean Kansas is following California's road to ruin.
Trump lost the 2016 primary in Kansas and carried the state by smaller margins than either McCain or Romney did.
No, it means that Kobach is a terrible candidate, runs bad campaigns, and there is no reason to believe that he's learned from his experience.
I should also point out that the Kobach campaign had to file his paperwork twice. First time they misspelled his first name.
Kansas used to be conservative and Kobach would have been a no brainer. Apparently, no more.
There are likely plenty of conservatives who aren't also idiot losers. Better that they pick one of them.
Kobach isn’t Todd Akin stupid, but he’s just not smart enough to tailor his answers and campaign in an effective way.
I always find it interesting that far right candidates are often rejected by Republicans while the Democrats rally around their looney fringe.
.... while the Democrats rally around their looney fringe.
____________
In 2020, that’s absolutely going to kill them.
Ping
Kobach is an illegal alien warrior and will get my support and vote.
