Playing off the the What if Custer thread a few days ago, what if George Washington’s army had AR-15s when they crossed the Delaware River...
Well for,one thing it would have meant everyone who had one, owned it. Most soldiers had to bring their own weapons. We had no regular standing army and no established masive arms companies to just go to and get thousands of guns and hand them out to men.
No change.
We still had the victory by surprise attack.
M14's in other battles...big difference.

Valley Forge they won easily without the AR-15s. Assuming they had thousands for every soldier and the ammo, the war would have been over by 1778, 3 years earlier.
You might enjoy “Guns of the South” by Harry Turtledove. He writes “ alternative history” fiction, and this book is based on the confederacy being given AK47s by a mysterious source that has nefarious reasons for doing so.
He would have never needed to cross the Delaware River. The war would have been long over by then if he had had AR-15's. ;o)
Some poor Hessian's last words would have been, "Come on now, what's a little bitty bullet like that going to do up against a .75 caliber Brown Be-"
But they might not have gotten that far. Consider how many AR's have been lost in boating accidents. Sad, very sad.
