Gosh, what a shock. I wonder if anybody saw this coming when they started trying to rewrite history in the 80s and when they started demonizing the South and its leaders and symbols starting in the 1990s.
But not Robert Byrd buildings and streets named after the former KKK leader.

It started long before the 1990s...
Some of my family hailed from the South - so I was always keenly aware of the negative stereotypes on TV and in the movies. In the westerns, the bad guys that got hanged were always southerners and the good guys that were the sheriff or who made up the posses were always northerners. In the sitcoms Southerners have always been depicted as corrupt and/or stupid.
I see a lot of anti southern bias here on FR as well.
