Rep. Justin Amash Quits Republican Party
Yahoo ^ | 4 July 2019 | Matt Fuller

Rep. Justin Amash is celebrating this Fourth of July in a manner years in the making: by declaring his independence from the Republican Party.

“No matter your circumstance, I’m asking you to join me in rejecting the partisan loyalties and rhetoric that divide and dehumanize us,” Amash wrote in a Washington Post op-ed posted Thursday morning. “I’m asking you to believe that we can do better than this two-party system — and to work toward it. If we continue to take America for granted, we will lose it.”

Amash, perhaps the most fiscally conservative member of Congress, has increasingly been at odds with the GOP. In May, he became the first and only Republican in Congress to call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. And in June, Amash stepped down from the once-ideologically conservative, now steadily more partisan House Freedom Caucus.

He knows he will be defeated in the Rep primary. Now he can run as an independent, his only chance of winning. If he loses, the Dem will win as Amash will split the Rep vote. A$$hole.

He got out because he’s losing his race to a Trump supporter by double digits. He’s the biggest asshole in the GOP. He ran as a NeverTrumper and he’s only gotten worse. A Muslim POS.

Don’t complain about the results of the Primary in your State since you left...

I've lived in seven states. I currently live in an "open-primary" state. As "unenrolled" I can vote in either but not both party primaries. I don't think this should be allowed but since they let me vote, I do vote in the GOP primaries. In 2016, I had the flu but crawled out of bed to vote in the primary for Trump and will do so again - sick or not.

Look at the BRIGHT SIDE. With Amash gone, there is now not even ONE Republican who’s for impeaching Trump.

Plus any other Republican thinking of acting up knows his fate will be like Amash, who now figured out that even his Primary was hopeless...so in a way he did us all a favor.

Amash quits GOP ahead of being kicked out in next year’s primary. Will he make his run for President as a Libertarian official as I predicted ?

A scumbag lawyer, I’m shocked.

Former lawyer according to the story. I don’t if that just means he isn’t practicing.

I fear you are correct. This will make Amash feel powerful where before he has had no power.

He didn’t join the Dems. His “leaving the GOP” is pretty obviously a precursor to running as an independent in 2020 against POTUS.

#73: "a precursor to running as an independent in 2020 against POTUS."

Interesting. It can only hurt the Dems; he's not going to siphon votes away from people would vote for President Trump.

Imagine how his voters feel. After he started with his ‘impeachment’ b.s., I saw a youtube video of one of his ‘former’ supporters. She actually worked on his campaign and she was livid. Multiply that by 1000s.
