Rep. Justin Amash is celebrating this Fourth of July in a manner years in the making: by declaring his independence from the Republican Party.
No matter your circumstance, Im asking you to join me in rejecting the partisan loyalties and rhetoric that divide and dehumanize us, Amash wrote in a Washington Post op-ed posted Thursday morning. Im asking you to believe that we can do better than this two-party system and to work toward it. If we continue to take America for granted, we will lose it.
Amash, perhaps the most fiscally conservative member of Congress, has increasingly been at odds with the GOP. In May, he became the first and only Republican in Congress to call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. And in June, Amash stepped down from the once-ideologically conservative, now steadily more partisan House Freedom Caucus.

He was a JV gadfly in the GOP before, but he finally made the varsity team and immediately turns pro. It speaks volumes that Amash did this only after DJT put tariffs on PRC products which affected the Amash family business’ bottom line... making him the US Chamber of Commerce’s kind of guy.
“All Trump did was expose the entire party as a bunch of feckless frauds.”
Unquestionably Trump’s greatest gift to our country. All those years of thinking that the GOP was really interested in effecting change in our country, went down the drain with his ride down that escalator. When confronted with the “golden opportunity of the century,” to have a President who had the fortitude and ability to really get the things done that they only taliked about, we were able to see them for the useless $hit that the really are, and have always been.
A scumbag lawyer, I’m shocked.
Well...after Mitt Romney’s Trump condemnation I dropped out of the GOP too. If Trump cleans out enough of the RINOs, I may consider re-joining. Until then, I’m on the Trump Train. After that? Who knows? As Trump says, we’ll see.
He must have signed his MSNBC contract.
His district voted in a raghead lawyer. This is what they deserve. (Not us though...)
Does he stop crying?
“I have NOT voted for him the last 2 election cycles, and look forward to a real choice this time around. Good riddance to bad trash.”
So who will take up the “GOP mantle” here, and can that person be elected next year? The big issue here is retaking the House.
Good riddance, he is our rep. I suspect he though he might not win his primary. I can’t see him changing parties to Dem, especially after what he said about both. He would lose more voters becoming a Dem. And with more than 2 challengers there will most likely be a run off. If he did survive I’m sure he already got the word Trump would not even mention his name when he came to Michigan too campaign for our locals. John James is running against Peters and that will be an easier win for him than against Stabenow. I am sure Trump will come here and endorse James. And will get in some good digs against Amash. Stick a fork in him he is done.
I’m kinda’ surprised he didn’t set off his suicide vest before he left. Oh, wait.
Don’t complain about the results of the Primary in your State since you left...
And leading the advancement to the rear is...
bump
And there goes their anti-Trump bipartisan coalition
Just another example of a lying Democrat. As usual.
Globalist Free Traitor&153 that moved his business to China. F him.
“Simply a tactical move, he knew hed never survive a republican primary.. so he will now run as an incumbent democrat in hopes of holding his seat.”
Yep, that, in the end, is all he’s doing. In fact, he’s such a principled conservative, that he’d rather run 3rd party to ensure his seat goes Communist, than lose in the primary.
Well, Bye!
And please, don’t come back.
