he California State Assembly voted 9-2 to send to the state senate a resolution calling on religious leaders to counsel on LGBTQ matters from a place of love, compassion, and knowledge of the psychological and other harms of conversion therapy.
While no one would argue with the aim of being more loving and more compassionate in our counsel of our fellow man, the peoples representatives do not possess any authority in the arena of religious practice.
Article I, Section 4 of the California Constitution reads, in relevant part: Free exercise and enjoyment of religion without discrimination or preference are guaranteed. This liberty of conscience does not excuse acts that are licentious or inconsistent with the peace or safety of the State. The Legislature shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.
Regardless of those restrictions, lawmakers in the California Assembly have chosen to ignore their states constitution and to introduce a measure that, should it ever become binding law, would drastically shrink the scope of religious liberty in the Golden State.

This resolution will penalize any religious community in California, that practices their faith and stands up for what they believe.
This could not be more clear, it is a direct violation of First Amendment rights to freedom of religion.
Unconstitutional.

a vote of 9-2? That can’t be right. There are 80 members of the CA Assembly.
Earth to the California State Assembly - Butt out.
Nothing is unconstitutional until John Roberts takes a poll.
And they will of course look the other way when the Muslim Imams tell them to shove it up their collective Obamaholes.
Or else they’ll do what exactly?
Pole or poll?
Good point. I may be wrong. ;)
You’re absolutely right, it’s unconstitutional.
One wonders if it applies to mosques. Somehow I doubt it.
I doubt if there ever was conversion therapy as it exists in the liberal mind. Fake News abounds.
They’re just paving the way for the day the governor decides to be honest with himself and step out of the closet he appears to have hidden in for so many years. (Just my humble opinion, y’know.)
The headline should be something like:
California Passes Law Forcing ISLAM to accept Sodomy, threatens Prison for Imams
Boy aint the truth.
I was in San Francisco area this past weekend. The big Pride parade was this past weekend. EVERY business large and small had rainbows in billboards and on their windows. I guess so as to not have their windows broken out. Really sick pandering. I stayed way north of the city during that time.
Does this apply to Mosques as well? Muslims dont like LGBTs either.
Where’s that separation of church and state now?
Only unconstitutional if John Roberts says so. You never know these days.
