I agree w buttplug on this one issue. Less than 1% of our nation serve in the military and a high percentage are unfit to serve for one reason or another. This is how to grow snowflakes. Some form of conscripted service (NOT in our military) may make better citizens.

I have little doubt that any National Service would be mobilized for leftist causes, and the claim that it would promote “national unity” is an absolute joke. It is just one more plank in the Democrats’ fascist vision for America - bring everything and everyone under the control of the Federal government.
The next step is free tuition for those who serve.

My “National Service” program consists of VOLUNTARILY contributing to charities that (usually) operate from a traditional Christian perspective, and which provide a variety of services both at home and abroad. These include James Robison Ministries, SmileTrain, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Union Gospel Mission, Food For The Poor, The Sudan Relief Fund, World Vision, The Christian Appalachian Project, and a few others. Buttigieg’s idea is just another leftist indoctrination project, i.e., fascism in action.
How about “National Volunteer Masonry Force” to build the damn wall already?
The world was a better place when these people were kept locked up in mental institutions.
On one condition, use these civic minded folks to round up and deport illegal aliens.

I believe we need a national service and or mandatory 2 years active/reserve duty military service in this country. Exceptions tailored in for corner case scenarios.
We have too many thugs out on the streets. There are too many illegals wondering around. Too many lazy @$$e$ in our society.
This would help our nation in that we would be able to train folks for specific jobs such as electrical/plumbing/welding and so forth. Use this manpower to help rebuild our nations infrastructure.
Every person 18 years old should be required to register for military/national service. It would just teach young people responsibility, pride, patriotism.
All the particulars I figure are about to be worked through....5,4,3,2,...go.

As a former Marine, I can’t disagree with you more on this.
Fill our military with a bunch of trash that doesn’t want to be there, can’t be disciplined and wont train.
Suck the morale out of the real troops because you want to turn our military into just another socialist government works program.
