Bad idea. Another chapter in a long line of leftist proposals for compelled government service. I am sure those serving will get a wall-to-wall diet of leftist indoctrination propaganda.
A better way to unify the country?
Restore the demographic situation to the point where you can have a natural, organic sense of cultural and national unity that doesn’t have to be forced via weird artifacts like mandated national service.

At what cost and how would he pay for it? A national program of this scale would be very expensive and there’s no reason to believe it would ever overcome existing differences in our society.
The military experience is unique and cannot be “ported” over to civilian style programs.
Moreover, virtually every “project” that such a program would undertake would be for the benefit of liberal causes and objectives. You can count on that.

If he wants to unite the country the first thing he would do would be to stop playing the race and gender cards. And Buttplug calling for "reparations" is a sure fire way to seriously divide the country. I can think of few things more divisive and damaging than "reparations".

Makes me think the age requirement for POTUS should be 65. Too many of these people on their own fast track and don’t feel the need to pay any dues. Those that know they won’t win will profit financially by shooting off their mouth. The office is not a stepping stone to anything.

The program would focus on students at high schools, community colleges, vocational schools, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) as well as so-called “opportunity youth” (people between ages 16 and 24 who are neither in school nor working).
