Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton issued a statement responding to the President's request saying the tanks would not be ideal for the event.
After we have worked for years with the National Park Service to refurbish the National Mall, at a cost of millions of taxpayer dollars, President Trump now proposes to have 60-ton battle tanks there, where they would likely do significant damage," Holmes Norton said.
"These tanks, heavy equipment, and weapons of war have no place on the National Mall at all, particularly as we celebrate the Fourth of July."

"Just as the Pentagon reminded the president of the damage tanks would do to D.C. streets, costing the federal government and District taxpayers millions of dollars, Interior and other federal officials must do the same for the Mall before it is too late," Holmes Norton warned.

Exactly. Hence the Michigan doubles with all the axles under them. Less pounds per Square inch on the surface. Shorter stopping distance also.
A Michigan double with the right configuration can carry up to 50 tons plus. They are allowed 164 thousand pounds gross.
This malignancy on civil society and criminal loser has been WDC ‘ s “shadow” fake rep for decades. She outs the NIT in nitwit .
Do you have video of these tanks on civilian streets?
My guess is that the tanks will be towed in and parked.
They have special rubber track pads for street driving.
Here is some background info on various types of treads which describes them all briefly:

Uhm, it’s Commander *IN* Chief.
I was a tank commander on an M48A3 in Vietnam, an M60A1 in Germany on the Fulda Gap near the Czech Border after Vietnam, and a tank gunnery instructor at Ft. Knox, from 1969-1972. Our rubber track pads didn’t do too much damage to the pavement as long as we slowed down during turns, and avoided neutral steering unless absolutely neccesary.
The weight is a false concern.
High speed fully loaded semis do more damage than a slow moving M1A1 with street gear."
Concur. I was one of many that planned the movement of material at Camp Lejeune to the Port of Wilmington for OIF I. The movement of M-1 tanks was a significant event. They have trailers to move tanks, but they do cause some damage of the roads, e.g. decrease the life span, but not tear them up. However, if you use new treads on a tank (so only the rubber pads touch the road surface), the actual weight per square foot is less than a regular tractor trailer. You could rail them in and drive them over and back.

Pat, can I buy a fake hyphen for 3 bucks?
Thanks. Interesting stuff.
That is clearly the plan. Just 80,000 votes distributed among PA, WI, and MI would've given Hillary a 46-EV swing and a 273-258 victory....
80,000 out of 136,000,000... and they're pushing 15,000 per week across the border... and getting them licenses... and not separating them on the census... Not a coincidence.
Keeper of the Tread Head Ping List: (Just a bunch of tankers)
Ping, BOOM!
As a former 0351/0352, I didn’t know y’all targets kept a ping list!
Crushed the smug right out of that thing!
No thanks on the mall? How about her constituents pooping on her lawn...likely she is hip with that since it is in style in Dem strongholds.
The real issue is the underground infrastructure e.g., water and sewer lines. DCs maintenance records are awful.
