I was talking to a wacko Methodist preacher a while back who told me a fiscal conservative couldn't be concerned about the plight of the poor because we were against raising taxes.

I asked him what he would call "raising taxes to give to the poor?"

He said "charity."

I asked him "isn't charity the act of freely giving of your own wealth to others?"

He thought for a minute and said, "then what would you call raising taxes to give to the poor?"

I said "I would call that THEFT."
