A man whose wife is Ta’s cousin told this news organization earlier this week that the slayings may have been motivated by simmering tension and resentment over how Ta’s wife was able to sponsor relatives in Vietnam for a U.S. visa, and he was limited from doing the same because of his criminal record.

More evidence bolstering Trump's argument against chain migration.

Hey, don't knock the Vietnamese here, they're one of the few conservative communities left here in the Silicon Valley!!

Pretty sure I didn’t knock anyone.

It sounded like you did to me as well. The Vietnamese I worked with in San Jose were diligent hard workers, and VERY happy to be in America, and once naturalized, stout-hearted loyal citizens.

I never even spoke the word “Vietnamese”, so how did it sound to you like I knocked the Veitnamese?

Do their names sound American to you? I bet they don’t.

So tell me how did I knock the Veitnamese again?

Yes, they do sound like American names, like Schultz, O’Brien, Gonzalez, Asimov, Jensen, Chopra...

Why did you find their names so noteworthy, hmmm?

Duc Don Low, Run Li Phuc, and Wa Ti Phuc all escaped the building.

Because they don’t sound like American names, which would indicate to me that they likely aren’t from here, and thus are probably foreign.

What does an American name sound like to you? Eisenhower? Einstein? Sikorsky? Murphy? Praeger? Or maybe Krulak?

An American name, to me, sounds like none of these -

Le Thuy Hoang, 51, of Milpitas; and San Jose residents Phung Ngoc Hoang, 48, Thanh Hoa Hoang, 23, and Thi Que Pham, 42.

Maybe they sound like American names to you, but they don’t sound like American names to me, especially since they feature phonetic combinations that are not common to the language of America, which is English.

I'll help here...maybe.

During the years of Ellis Island being the entry point for legal immigration from Europe, complicated family names would be officially change for maybe easier spelling & pronouncing to simplify the Melting Pot theory for everyone to assimilate into the USA and become one people. Ties to the old country removed.

Sounds like a very smart idea.

I wonder why the practice stopped.

Tell us your “family name” and let us see if it sounds “American”. Unless you are 100% Native American your ancestors came from someplace else too. You sound like a bigot to me.

“What’s your name?”

“Vito Andolini from Corleone”

“ok, Vito Corleone”

“Christian” - probably Scottish or English.

Or perhaps it was “Kristiansen” (Danish) and your ancestors changed it when they got here.
