IANAL, but it sure looks to me like the Supremes gave President Trump an exact roadmap on how to get the question into the census. And they foreclosed the arguments the left used to get the whole thing considered in the first place.

All the commerce dept. has to do is make a reasonably plausible story about why they want to add the question, and if it involves administration policy the lower courts can not overrule it.

Sure, we have work to do, but with a little bit of planning we can get it done in time.

That assumes that Trump makes it a priority and the relevant judge(S) accept it on a timely basis. I’m not the least optimistic on this.

Roberts is being compliant to his handlers!

They should respond “America, a country that all acknowledge has at least 11 million illegal aliens has to know the exact size of that foreign population, where they are at, and what they are up to. Considering that necessity I order that the census as a citizenship question.” in an executive order from POTUS.
