To damn is to outcast. Being in the proverbial closet was a way for society to outcast them - justifiably, since living in the open only enables them to operate with subversive and destructive impunity.
The Lord will eternally damn (condemn) those who do not repent and accept Grace for their sins. Society must once again temporally damn (denounce) them or all of American society, not just Christian and conservative, is doomed.
