MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - John Merrill officially announced Tuesday he will run for the U.S. Senate.
Merrill made the announcement around 10 a.m. Tuesday, releasing a video on social media.
Merrill was elected Alabamas chief elections officer in 2014 and won re-election in 2018.
The Senate seat is currently held by Democrat Doug Jones, who defeated Republican Roy Moore in a 2017 special election.

That’s what I said yesterday. Because you know only “real conservatives” will vote for Moore. s/
Did you read the thread? It was disgusting the way the posters were treated who felt Moore can’t win. Considering Pres. Trump has said the very same thing.
Yeah, I found it and read it a little while ago. I guess the fact Moore managed to lose a slam-dunk Senate race in an R+28 state doesn’t seem to hit home with some people. We need every single Senate seat we can keep from the dems, and leaving it to what amounts to no more than a 50-50 chance in such a conservative state is not a smart approach.
You’ve got three presidential elections on me, but I cut my teeth on Oregon ‘Pub politics, which are kind of messy.
Packwood and Hatfield just about cancelled each other out on any controversial issue (the two ‘Pub Senators)—including, I found out later, sexual deviancy. (Hatfield almost certainly batted for the other team).
As a pro-life family we were pro-Hatfield, anti-Packwood. While there are some things that Packwood stood for that Hatfield didn’t that we agreed with, on the whole we would rather have had Wayne Morse (the Republican-turned independent-turned Democrat who died in 1974 that Packwood had first defeated) or Wayne Morse’s horse.
I don’t think I’ve ever voted for a Dem, as I’ve never lived in a place where that party hasn’t gone completely nuts, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t write in Wayne Morse (or his horse) or whomever if the Pub stinks.
If voting actually made a difference, it would be illegal (Twain)
That makes sense. Thanks.
Now would you vote for him if he had gone to Auburn or Georgia?
LOL
You got caught showing your ignorance and engaging in character assassination of a good man. You’re also lying about people being banned, too.
Nobody was. MJ was savagely attacking Justice Moore with the same moonbat media talking points, all the while having zero knowledge of Alabama politics. She got rightly called out for it and now she’s butthurt.
Poor you. Assassinate a good man’s character and YOU are the wronged one ? Have you no shame, ma’am ?
Will this solve the Roy Moore issue?
Now you sound like DannyH, troll supremo.
There are a lot of candidates running so far. It’s unlikely any will win without a runoff.
I take it having multiple good candidates increases the odds of that, and then a runoff increases the odds for one of them prevailing over Moore?
The question is how many of those candidates have both the resources and the visibility. Stopping the RINO Establishment preferences (namely Rep. Bradley Byrne) is paramount. Moore still remains the anti-corruption, anti-Establishment leader, given the lengths to which the RINO Machine went to stop him from being elected. Sadly, Trump grievously erred in 2017 endorsing the corrupt appointee Luther Strange, who got the job as a payoff for not indicting the corrupt ex-Governor who appointed him.
This is one instance where the President and his surrogates are better off not making an endorsement (or attacking Judge Moore), because if Moore does get the nomination again, the media will use that to attack Trump. Let the primary voters in AL sort this one out and make the best decision.
*ping*
(extension of yesterday’s Moore-bashing)
Who was banned?

See what I mean. Here they are: the Moore purists.
Moore did that to himself.
All I said was Moore can’t win.
You were banned? I thought you just left in a huff.
