Barr is ticked off that his beloved DOJ embarassed themselves, but he also doesn’t want to hurt them. He’s quietly telling them to stop this sort of thing, but will protect them from consequences of their little errors in judgement.

This is a political battle. Not a legal one. No Democrats are going to jail for assaulting POTUS and his suppporters. No doubt the corrupt FBI is continuing to obstruct release of the documents and to breezily suggest POTUS can “just release them” is false.
