Sanders to propose eliminating all $1.6T of student debt in US: report

Bernie Sanders, the 2020 hopeful, is set to announce on Monday a policy proposal that would eliminate all $1.6 trillion of American student debt, according to a report.

The Democratic presidential candidate’s new proposal calls for the federal government to wipe clean the student debt held by 45 million Americans, including all private and graduate school debt, The Washington Post reported. The proposal package also includes making public universities, community colleges and trade schools tuition-free.

Sanders reportedly plans to pay for the lofty proposal with a tax on Wall Street, which his campaign says will generate more than $2 trillion over 10 years. The tax would focus on financial transactions, the report said, such as a 0.5 percent tax on stock transactions and a 0.1 percent tax on bonds.

Bernie Sanders being the typical Democrat vote-whore that he is, will promise anything to fools dumb enough to vote for him.

Basically, all of us who never went to college or gained such debt....would go and pay for the stupidity of those who borrowed massively and got into debt. If you wanted massive anger among the public....this is the way to generate it.

Well, he certainly understands one important rule.

“In a nation of children, everyone will vote for Santa Claus.”

But, what he doesn’t quite seem to get is that the Western World is not yet at the point, where EVERYONE is an overgrown child. Certainly, we get a little closer to that point every year, it seems, however...

socialism is ONLY possible with a printed, fiat currency, controlled by a central bank and/or government authority

So then to make it fare and equal (which is the socialist mantra) those of us who have no student debt will get a check equal to the average debt forgiven. S/

If you wanted massive anger among the public....this is the way to generate it.

The apathy in this country is at such an all time high, I don't think you would get much of an outraged body of people. In our area welfare is "generational" king . . .as long is there is food on the table, medical cards, and gas for the vehicle, and a way to buy cigarettes, etc., they are good to go. I've been seeing signs everywhere advertising "more than minimum wage" jobs available. Many teenagers who have taken summer employment have no work ethic. I had one reprimand me at McDonalds for pulling up to the second window after waiting for someone to take my money at the first one. Needless to say I gave him a piece of my mind. If I encounter him again with his poor attitude I will summon his supervisor. . .I didn't have time at the time. I've witnessed at WalMart teenage workers "hiding out" in the aisles to avoid work. I mentioned it to an adult employee I know and described some of them and she said. . "oh, they are some of the better ones."

So the people who worked their way thru college, maybe taking 6 years instead of 4, saving money, never going on spring break get to subsidize those who took the free money, didn’t work, and partied in Florida and on weekends. That ought to go over well with the voters in a GENERAL election.

Great plan. Just what we need in a president... an elderly man from Brooklyn who thinks he’s Santa Claus... with other people’s money.

How is that fair? Needs to reimburse all tuition both paid and remaining debt. That’s the only way to be fair. ( push on Sanders, he is not being fair.)

It could be eliminated by making the students or ex-students pay it back.

Or putting a cap on what can be borrowed per semester.

Not everyone has to go to an Ivy league school they can’t afford.
