Andrew Bolt: Scott Morrison’s ‘miracle’ win has already changed Australian culture

Prime Minister Scott Morrison was right: his shock election win last month was a “miracle”. See how it’s already changed our culture.

Start with the most obvious example.

Before the election, ABC managing director David Anderson claimed not to see that our national broadcaster had been hijacked by the Left: “I don’t see any evidence to say we’re biased.”

But with the Coalition government re-elected, a miracle! The ABC boss’s vision was healed.

Now he admits: “The perspective of views that we represent is something that we could improve on.”

Others in our intelligentsia have also had their vision miraculously restored.

Before the election, the vice-chancellors of our universities claimed not to see that their campuses seemed enemies of free speech.

But then came Morrison’s miracle win. More blindness cured!

Just days later, university chancellors said, true, their universities should do more to protect free speech.

Even Labor can now see what it couldn’t before.

Before the election, Labor couldn’t see that Christians were persecuted for preaching their faith. It said nothing when Hobart’s Catholic Archbishop, for example, was dragged before Tasmania’s Anti-Discrimination Tribunal.

In fact, Labor hopped in. Leader Bill Shorten even had a dig at the faith of our Pentecostal Prime Minister, demanding Morrison join the persecution of rugby superstar Israel Folau for quoting the Bible’s teachings on gays: “I cannot believe that the Prime Minister has not immediately said that gay people will not go to hell.”

But now? Hallelujah! Having had its vote hammered in the Bible Belts, Labor has had an epiphany.

Now Labor frontbencher Kristina Keneally warns: “The extent to which Labor wasn’t seen to be standing up for people of faith did hurt us.”

That realisation is part of a wider change caused by the election — more tolerance of debate.

First there was Brexit,then Donald Trump and most recent Australia's miracle.

I guess the next two things to watch in anticipation of additional "miracles" are 1) will Brexit happen at all and,if so,in what form and 2) November 2020.

Europe's "Swamp" is strong and clever so it would be unwise to bet the farm on *any* form of Brexit happening...and our "Swamp" won't underestimate the President next year as they did in 2016.

Of course, the Aussie version of Second Amendment rights will never be restored. Liberals never give up ground in their attach on the conservatives.

Australia has never had any equivalent of 2nd Amendment rights in our laws.

I'd like to see guns laws relaxed but a rights based approach isn't likely to succeed in Australia.

The only right to bear arms we have is the one contained in the Bill of Rights 1689 and that's very little help.

Scott Morrison is not Donald Trump, something which American newspapers need to understand, even if the supporters of both have some commonalities. But is he Malcom Turnbull Lite?
